The Bevy is Brighton’s only community-owned pub and Britain’s only one on a housing estate. Reopened by local people in 2014, it’s grown into a thriving proper local through twelve years of blood, sweat and beers. Part pub, part community centre and quite deliberately a bit of both. We own the pub, but not the building. Now we have one year to raise the money, buy it and keep The Bevy in community hands for generations to come.

The Bevy is a proper local, but when we say community, we mean it. Every week there’s free food and activities at Family Thursday, affordable lunches and good company at Seniors Club, our Music & Memories dementia-friendly café, Disability Disco run by and for disabled people, Job Club, volunteering, live music, pool, darts and plenty more. Not bad for a pub on an estate in East Brighton.
Some come for a pint, some for a cheap lunch, some with the kids, some for the disco, the darts or just a bit of company. Families, pensioners, disabled people, volunteers, regulars and first-timers all end up under the same roof – and somehow, it works. It’s been built by people turning up, mucking in and looking out for each other. No grand plan. Just twelve years of people making The Bevy work.

Help Us Crowdfund £100,000.
We’re crowdfunding to raise the first £100,000 towards buying The Bevy’s building and securing its future in community hands. The important bit: The Bevy isn’t a failing pub asking to be saved. It’s busy, profitable and welcomes more than 800 people through its doors every month. We own the pub, but not the building. Now we have until 1 October 2027 to change that.
Every donation, big or small, brings us closer and reduces how much we need to borrow. Is £100,000 ambitious? Of course it is. But so was reopening a boarded-up pub in the first place, and look how that turned out.

Our first goal is to crowdfund £100,000 from people who believe places like The Bevy matter. Whether it’s £5, £50 or something bigger, every donation gets us closer to owning the building and securing its future. The Bevy was built by lots of people doing what they could, rather than one person doing the lot. This bit will be no different.
Use The Bevy
Come on in
The best thing our community can do is keep doing what it already does: use The Bevy. Have a pint, bring the kids, get some lunch, see some music or hire the place for a party. Every visit keeps the pub busy, profitable and in a stronger position to buy the building. So come down, bring your mates and have a drink. It’s hardly the worst way to help.

Buying the building will take more than a whip-round. We’re putting together a £600,000 funding package through grants, loans, investment and public support. We want to hear from individuals, businesses, trusts, funders and investors who see the value in securing a proven community asset for the future.

The Bevy is a Community Benefit Society, which means the money we make goes straight back into the pub and the local community. No shareholders getting rich, no profits disappearing elsewhere. Just good things happening for good people, thanks to everyone who mucks in. Now we’re crowdfunding to buy the building and keep The Bevy in community hands for good. Every pound helps.
