The cost of living is going through the roof for everyone. Just like everyone around the country our fuel bills are skyrocketing and many people are saying they can’t afford to go to the pub with thousands of pubs up and down the country saying they will have to close. Our focus is always to provide an accessible fun venue that helps people across our community. So how can the Bevy keep its doors open while making sure everyone can come along if they want to? How can we help people across Moulsecoomb and Bevendean manage with the tough financial times ahead?
FAMILY ACTIVITIES, ROASTS AND SUNDAY MARKETS
After the success of our free children’s events this summer, we are going to be running family activities on Sundays when we relaunch our roasts, starting with a dogshow in the garden on the 2nd of October. We are also bringing back the very popular – ‘your children cook your pudding while you have your roast in peace!’. We are planning a Sunday games day with people showing you how to play table tennis, darts, bar billiards and Toad in the Hole on our brand new table. And look out for our children’s Halloween party.
SCHOOL UNIFORM REPAIR
On Tuesday August 30th we are hosting a workshop in which Shirley Eborn is going to help beginners fix up last year’s uniforms in preparation for everyone heading back to school. Email shirley@shirleyeyborn.co.uk to book your place.
EAST BRIGHTON FOOD CO-OP
We have teamed up with East Brighton Food Co-op to help deliver our Meals on Wheels to local vulnerable people and food for other events like the very well received buffet for a recent wake. We still need delivery drivers for our Meals on Wheels so drop us a line on contact@thebevy.co.uk.
BEVY LAGER
We have switched to a new beer supplier, which will help us keep prices down as well as having our very own Bevy lager which we will keep at £4 a pint as long as possible.
TURN OFF THE LIGHTS
We are doing an energy audit with committee and staff to see how we can keep costs down and we are looking at grants to install solar panels.
ZERO WASTE PUB
We are shortly to be installing our very own new composting system which will mean that all our leftover food can be converted into compost for our beautiful and productive pub garden.
LUNCH CLUBS AND DEMENTIA CAFE
With Friday Friends coming to an end, we are very keen to support another Friday lunch club. Would you like to be part of that, we would be very interested to hear your ideas. We would also like to relaunch a dementia cafe and again are keen to hear from anyone who would like to run one at the Bevy.
We know that times are so tough for everyone and we are very grateful for any contribution that people can make to our community activities. You can make a one off or regular donation at www.thebevy.co.uk/donate/
We are always open to new ideas and activities. Drop us a line at contact@thebevy.co.uk
